CORBA eNews for February 13, 2007
On January 30, by unanimous vote, the Rancho Palos Verdes City Council voted to allow bikes on upper trails at Forrestal on a trial basis. The trails will re-open February 24, 2007. We thank the CORBA-PV Steering Committee for their dedication and leadership, and for their stewardship of the local trails. CORBA-PV has laid the foundation to help keep the trails we love open. If you ride in Rancho Palos Verdes, please consider stepping up and volunteering for trail work. A few hours a year is a small price to pay for a place to ride. The next trail workday is Saturday, February 24th at Forrestal, followed by a re-opening celebration ride. For details: http://mtbpv.org/volunteers.htm CORBA Trail Maintenance On The Ken Burton Trail, Saturday, February 17th Work will continue on the Burton Trail in the Angeles National Forest near Brown Mountain. Last September we cleared the top 1.25 miles of trail. We have one mile to go and hope to finish it in one day. We will carpool up Brown Mountain Road to the trailhead. Another option is to ride your bike and meet us there. Meet at 7:45 AM at the Millard Canyon Campground parking lot. Or if you want to ride your bike, meet at the top at 8:30 AM. Santa Monica Mountains ParkLink Shuttle Is Now Free The ParkLINK shuttle service is a great way to experience the Santa Monica Mountains parks on weekends. Now, the service is free! Mountain bicyclists can ride the Backbone Trail from the Kanan Road Trailhead (near tunnel T1) over to Malibu Creek State Park and take the shuttle back to their vehicles, among other options. There are bike racks and the shuttle is air conditioned.
